Triple-I appoints Patrick Schmid as Chief Insurance Officer

The Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I) has announced the appointment of Patrick Schmid as Chief Insurance Officer, effective July 11, 2025.

Schmid will also lead the organisation’s Catastrophe Resiliency Council and the Insurance Research Council, reporting to Sean Kevelighan, CEO of Triple-I.

Additionally, he will continue in his role as president of The Institutes’ RiskStream Collaborative, reporting to Pete Miller, president and CEO of The Institutes.

Schmid is succeeding Dale Porfilio, who has served as Triple-I’s Chief Insurance Officer and President of the IRC for the past four years.

Kevelighan said, “After four years of dedicated service, Dale has decided to pursue new opportunities. We are grateful for his leadership and the impact he has made across our organization and industry. He helped shape critical initiatives and strengthen the value we provide our members.”

Porfilio commented, “I have been deeply honored to serve the insurance industry as a leader of the Triple-I and IRC for the last four years, educating consumers, media, policymakers and industry professionals every day.

“I am looking forward to my next career chapter and continuing to work and serve in the insurance industry.”

Schmid has spent the past 17 years working in various senior roles at The Institutes, including Vice President – RiskStream Collaborative, Assistant Vice President – Enterprise Research, and Director of Research at IRC.

Prior to working in the insurance industry, Schmid was an economist for Moody’s Analytics.

Kevelighan added, “We are fortunate to have a strong succession plan in place with Pat, and his deep understanding of strategy, risk management and collaborative innovation make him an excellent fit for this expanded leadership role at Triple-I and IRC.”

Schmid said, “I’m truly excited to embrace this opportunity to lead and collaborate within the Triple-I, IRC and the Catastrophe Resiliency Council communities.

“Working together with industry leaders, we will drive innovative, informative initiatives that strengthen and advance the future of risk management and insurance. United by a shared vision, we are poised to create meaningful impact and inspire progress across the entire industry.”
