Vermont DFR names Samsom commissioner

The Vermont Department of Financial Regulation in Montpelier on Monday named Kaj Samsom commissioner.

He succeeds Sandy Bigglestone, deputy commissioner of Vermont’s captive insurance division, who had held the additional role of acting commissioner since Jan. 1.

Mr. Samsom previously was chief auditor at the National Life Group and was Vermont’s tax commissioner from 2017 to 2019.

From 2014 to 2017, he was deputy commissioner of the insurance division.

He joined the department in 2006 as an insurance examiner and was promoted to director of the insurance division licensing and examinations section in 2011.
