Virginia COVID-19 presumption bill killed by state senate

A Virginia Senate committee on Thursday killed a bill that would have made COVID-19 a compensable workers compensation injury by presumption for some workers.

The Virginia House of Representatives on Sept. 4 passed H.B. 5028, which would have provided death and disability benefits for certain employees who contract COVID-19 and their families.

The presumption, which fell in line with legislative trends nationwide, would have applied to firefighters, emergency medical services personnel, law-enforcement officers, first responders, health care providers and school employees.
