Walmart settles four EEOC disability discrimination lawsuits

Walmart Inc. and one of its affiliates have agreed to pay a combined $275,000 to resolve four lawsuits accusing the retail giant of disability discrimination, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said.

The EEOC said Wednesday that Wal-Mart Stores East LP would pay $175,000 to settle lawsuits related to three retail locations in North Carolina where the agency said the company failed to accommodate employees with disabilities and terminated them for disability-related absences.

On Tuesday, the EEOC said Walmart would pay $100,000 to resolve a lawsuit it filed in federal court in Phoenix that alleged the retailer unlawfully terminated a cashier because she had a prolonged absence due to seizures.
