West Virginia to consider allowing nurse practitioners to diagnose PTSD

West Virginia lawmakers are considering a bill that would expand the types of medical professionals who can diagnose post-traumatic stress disorder by presumption for first responders.

H.B. 2797, introduced Friday, would allow for certified mental health nurse practitioners to diagnose the mental condition and also adds language that requires psychologists and psychiatrists to be licensed.

The bill also extends the presumption, enacted in 2021, to 2030.
